Chapter 1

“Within The Clouds”

Once upon a time…

…On a land far off, in the middle of the continent of Wildemount, there was a beautiful city on the peak of the highest of the Cyrios Mountains. This marvelous place was not an ordinary settlement and neither were its inhabitants.

Inside the mountain a civilization prospered…

….human-sized bird-folk had made it their home for hundreds of years, hidden in plain sight within the clouds and the mountainous mist. These beings looked like huge eagles, they had sharp claws and a wingspan often bigger than their height! These oversized birds fashioned a variety in the colors of their feathers, each having an almost unique combination of shades of brown or white which were the most usual, but there were also a few of rarer fur complexion.

The city was exclusively populated by these intelligent winged creatures who called themselves, Aarakocra, but as some legends and folklore may suggest, they were also commonly known by another name, Eisfura.

The culture in this municipality is roughly what anyone could expect from an elven civilization. A few key aspects were to preserve what they had and learn more about the world without forgetting who they once were, guardians of the realm.

This city was build in a huge network of caves within the top of Mount Antim, which overlooked the rest of the mountains and in some clear days, the whole of Wildemount. All entrances lead to dangerous, steep edges that would surely prove lethal to anyone without flying capabilities, but for the young Eisfuura, these were the gateways that let them enjoy their freedom, fly proud and high thousands of meters above the ground and played within the freezing cold breeze that never seemed to really bothered them.

Dozens of Aarakocra filled the sky on a good day either by playing chase in the distance around Antim’s top,  watching or competing on a H’aara-shie match or just simply enjoying the fresh air and admiring the view.

But this story, is not about the Aarakocra in general of course…

…but rather, for a young, blue and very curious Eisfura who unbeknownst to her, was meant for something more in the grand scale of things.

…Her name, you wonder?…

A sound…carried like a soft whisper in the Aarakocran tongue through the windy caverns of Vol’antim, to a louder shout of a cheering audience at the top of the mountain as she was chasing a cloud, falling with exceptional speed after it and catching it!

…all you could hear is ‘Aura! Aura! Aura!’…
Aura
