Chapter 3

“A Damsel in Stress”

On another continent, in a huge elven city, a charismatic elf (the damsel in stress) thrives in the Inns and Taverns of this wondrous culture.

Huge walls surround this city almost as big as its history, elven architecture and craftmanship is apparent in this metropolis and enormous towers with arcane powered crests on top where visible from any high point in the city and are left there in display of elven supremacy along with the hope of not having to use them again.

Its populace includes mostly elves of all kinds, Eladrin and high elves being the majority, though a visitor could lay sight to some ‘half-bloods’ as they called them, meaning the half-elves along with other races of peoples that are only passing through or trading.

Among some districts, a curious traveler might get a glimpse of a few more magical sceneries and lifeforms…

Fey creatures have claimed a few wards of this vast city. Pixies, sprites and other friendlier species of their former home plane, the Feywild, often lead the unwary traveler astray or indulge in games that some may enjoy less than others.

This is Syngorn, a former jewel of the Feywild, now adorned on the material plane, established in the continent of Tal’Dorei.

A new family made its way to the nobility ranks the last few centuries.

This family is known as the Gwiddonods and Kaius  – a ruthless merchant, a cunning spokesman and a commanding figure- is the father and the leader of the household. Kaius wants and has in some extend succeded to make this family name known and feared in Syngorn and possibly to the whole world if he has a say in the matter. This intimidating figure started from the bottom, with nothing to his name and in time managed to achieve enough to reach the highest ranks of nobility, which was no easy feat.

After a few centuries, Kaius and his wife had a bunch of children to share their legacy, but there was one that couldn’t find its way amidst the rest.

Their second child, a beautiful, red haired, tanned skin elf with olive green eyes had her focus on the more frivolous side of life, something that Kaius never liked or tolerated for long.

Even though this child had made a name for herself in Syngorn while growing up, Kaius, sent her away, to another continent, to find herself and study on a completely different environment and without stress, with the hopes that she will ‘get her act together’ and to stop ‘wasting her time in childish, inane and insignificant pursuits!’ as he often made a point of saying.

Consequently, the red-haired Eladrin spent some time in another continent, far west of Tal’dorei, in Marquet, but that never stopped her from chasing he ‘inane pursuits’. On the contrary, now, she had no supervision which was both a boon and a curse in disguise.

She had a lot of fun, made a quite a few friends with only one being her best, indulged in the entertainment industry of Marquet and experienced a different culture first hand. All turned out to be neat!

…until the night that her story took a wide, darker turn.

It was a Yulisen night like any other, starry, cold, quiet -at least outside- , because inside the party had just begun!

Loud bard music filled the local Marquesian bar and everyone danced and helped themselves on some of the Sandkheg’s Hide reserves and a few new, rugged but handsome fellas joined in the fun. But the gentlemen seemed to have different plans for the evening…

When everyone woke up from their drunken stupor, they found themselves locked in different accomodations. They were all prisoners in large cages on a floating vessel, with no recollection of who or what happened or even why…

Days had passed, and an opportunity had arisen to escape, which the young elf did not let to go to waste. She managed to make it out of this ship alive, somehow, but something changed inside her…forever.

No one could bring back what she had lost that eventful few days, alas there was also something she had found…

Power?…Motivation?…she couldn’t exactly figure out, but the young Gwiddonod had discovered something for certain, a sense of primeval connection with the water.

She was not alone during her way back to her family and once she arrived things had changed, her family was, different…But now she was too, even though she wanted to stay, get involved, she witnessed some things she didn’t like. But now, she didn’t have to just ‘take it’, she could leave, an overwhelming sense of freedom started itching the back of her thoughts, she was her own person now, the fear of unknown was only a child’s play in contrast to what she had experienced.

She took something important along with her things, something that did not belong to her, and left home, possibly even forever…

Hunted or not, she followed the calling of the water, she followed her new teacher, her new guide to the unknown depths of the world. It was just her against the world, until she found herself in another city of elves in the continent of Wildemount and it was time to start anew, to leave the past behind and explore her newfound self, wherever that may lead.

She is a daughter of Gwiddonods no longer…She is Lyrengorn, and she can carve her own path and explore what fate has in store for her.
