Chapter 4

“Under the Shadow of Her Light”

The Calamity devastated Wildemount and its peoples, changing the landscape and cultures forever and even though that most survivors recovered to some extend and prospered, some were not that fortunate and lost in the shadows.

Hidden in the mountains of the north, forgotten, lost in history but protected by the Moonmaiden’s light and her guidance, a fragment of elven culture still remains. Fighting every day for survival, having no chance to truly rest and prosper in this land scarred by the Calamity this pocket of light persisted in spite of the darkness around it.

Despite the challenges, the dangers and the lethality of the environment, this small grove of elven heritage endured in time and adapted, their skin became pale and grey, whether as a result of their environment or something else, a mystery lost in time.

But this small haven was once again in great peril and something needed to change, the resources were dwindling and the body count was only increasing.

How much more can someone suffer before something is done about it?...This question had troubled many an elf in this grove, though few were courageous, powerful or lucky enough to seek outwards for an answer and return to share it with the others…

…Most turned to faith, to Sehanine the Moonweaver, goddess of the moon, who was beside them from the start. Many were waiting for a divine sign of what to do, but even though her warmth protected them, her guidance was out of their grasp…until…

…She revealed herself in the form of visions to three of those pallid elves…A young awkward boy, a spirited lass and her warrior-like father.

The vision showed them that it was time to venture outwards, south and bring a sliver of her tears to protect them until they were ready for the next step.

The elders did not believe that Her will was shown to a bunch of kids, but they wouldn’t let this opportunity go to waste. No matter what anyone said, they knew the truth and that is always enough.

The journey was long and perilous and only one of the three returned to the grove.

During this expedition, this inexperienced survivor awakened something within him while holding the tear, a string of divine essence connected to his being, a feeling of connection with Her light…

…And then the right questions started appearing in his head though with none of the answers within reach.

He had to leave, he had to find something better. This can’t be the best solution, there’s got to be more to life than surviving, there’s got to be more to life than suffering!…His fear of not doing enough overshadowed his fear of dying in this shithole without doing anything he can for them, for everyone. So many questions unanswered, yet, a feeling of inner confidence started to slowly weave into his mysterious, shy personality, revealing fragments of his potential but also adding to the pile of unknowns.

He traveled south, alone, through the great forest once again. This forest was different than their own, green and bountyful…alive.

The Pale elf was on a quest of finding civilization, help and answers.

His best friend, Calina, was there to aid him in his quest. This is the same spirited lass that also had the vision of the Moonweaver a while back. On their previous trip to this forest, she accepted to stay behind as an exchange for the tear with the inhabitants of these woods and she was given a new purpose there, within the bounds of the forest. She was different, felt different, still not fully used to her new…gifts.

Together, they trekked through most of this greenwood until they saw fire and smoke in the distance, and a blue flying creature shooting arrows towards the fire!

Calina was oathbound to help and that’s when young Sethurin’s adventure decidedly had begun
